Yasmian Al Sharshani visited The Hamilton International School giving career advice to learners
The Hamilton International School (“Hamilton”), part of International Schools Partnership (ISP) hosted a special assembly on the 3rd of February with Qatar’s first female golfer, Yasmian Al Sharshani. Yasmian spoke to the students about her passion for golf and how it has enabled her to pursue her dreams. Aiming to inspire students, the assembly focused on Hamilton’s core mission and vision to ignite their students’ passion to pursue their purpose and forever chase their potential.
Hamilton launched in Doha in August 2019, offering International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC) and the International Primary Curriculum (IPC), which is taught in over 2,000 schools across 98 countries. In September 2020 Hamilton is opening their Middle School Grades 6-8 which will also offer the International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC) whilst embedding the core of the US curriculum standards. High School students will graduate with a US-accredited high school diploma. The school will cater to children from ages 3 to 14 (Pre-KG to Grade 8).
The assembly was attended by over 200 students, from 3 to 11 years old, where they had the opportunity to listen to Yasmian as she talked to them about the importance of being passionate about something and working hard to achieve it. Yasmian shared her journey as a woman in sports, her life lessons and how they groomed her to be the person that she is today. Students were given an opportunity to ask questions, enjoy golf demonstrations and take pictures with the Qatari golfing star.
“It is very important to show young people that is it possible to follow your dreams and make a living out of it. Our generation was conditioned to more traditional career paths, which they may not be passionate about. It is, therefore our responsibility to change that notion and show the youth that there are many opportunities ahead of them, and encourage them to dream big,” explained Yasmian.
Yasmian is an international golfer and the first ever Arab woman to obtain a master’s degree from the International Olympic Academy based in Greece, with a thesis that focused on women and sports in Qatar. Through her speaking opportunities, and professional competitions all around the world, representing Qatar, Yasmian has had the opportunity to meet golfing icons such as Tiger Woods and many other dignitaries including Mr. Bach, the President of Greece. She is the first Qatari woman to win an award in leadership and sports in 2013 from Qatar International Business Forum.
Yasmian is an advocate for women and children in sports and participates in workshops and events where she can encourage them to follow their passions and undertake sports.
Terry Senior, Principal of The Hamilton International School, said: “It was such an honour to host Yasmian today at our campus. At Hamilton we are committed to igniting students’ passions so they can discover their purpose and true potential. We look forward to hosting more events that will inspire and entertain our students and keep them engaged and motivated.”
