The Hamilton International School, a new premier school located in Mesaimeer in Doha, is proud to have celebrated its first International Day with a fun filled day full of wonderful food and activities that brought the entire school community together.
On Thursday 21st November, over 500 children, staff and parents from 55 different nationalities attended Hamilton’s inaugural International Day event, where everyone dressed up and took part in a parade around the school’s magnificent new sports field to proudly showcase their nationality.
The International Day is an opportunity to bring a school’s community together and for children to learn the importance of being respectful and understanding of other people’s customs and values. Almost all of Hamilton’s parents were there, and many parents commented on how wonderful a day it was, and how well attended. And it wasn’t just the children, parents and teachers that took part – even the school’s security team and caterers got into the spirit of the day and dressed up to represent their nationalities.
Other activities included a wide variety of food stalls from these different nationalities, entertainment, a falcon which children were able to have their photo taken with, and Qatari mascots.
It was also a great opportunity for the school’s parents’ group, ‘Friends of Hamilton’, to come together, and they were instrumental in organising the food stalls and the decorations for their respective nationalities.
Terry Senior, Principal, commented: “Hamilton’s first International Day was something very special – everyone came together to celebrate their nationality, and to see the respect for each other’s unique culture and values was just amazing – some people didn’t realise which countries others had come from. Food is something that brings everyone together too, and the variety of food prepared by members of our school community was great – and very tasty! I am so proud to be a part of a school with such a wonderful community.”
